Dallas Desperados News Release
The Dallas Desperados continue their annual Impact Player Program when Offensive/Defensive Linemen Jeff Chase, Rickie Simpkins and Devin Wyman visit Cottrell House on Tuesday, May 2 at 6:00 p.m.
Throughout the 2006 Desperados season, select players made appearances at a variety of non-profit locations including hospitals, schools and after school programs. The players spent time with youth taking part in activities like tutoring, coaching sports, social recreation activities, mentoring, reading to children and arts & craft projects.
Now in its fourth year, the Impact Player Program was initiated by Coach Will McClay and allows the Dallas Desperados players and coaches an opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children in the Dallas area. The program also provides an opportunity for the Desperados players to gain confidence in their ability to interact with the community as professional athletes and role models.
Cottrell House is a community-based residential facility located in the east Dallas area. They focus on vocational skills and independent living preparation for male youth between the ages of 16-21 years. All residents are required to complete Independent Living Skills classes and community service. After all educational requirements are met, the youth are eligible for work.
Cottrell House is one of the programs sponsored by the Dallas Youth Resource Advisory Council, which is non-profit organization whose goal is to support TYC youth by providing necessary resources that are not available by TYC funds.
