Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

This past weekend was very good for Grand Rapids Rampage head coach Sparky McEwen. First, his team beat the Nashville Kats 61-54 on Saturday evening. Sunday afternoon, he had his first former player drafted in the NFL (Terna Nande by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round). Today, McEwen received news that another former Creston player he coached will be headed to the NFL with the Cleveland Browns signing Carlton Brewster to a free-agent contract.

Brewster was with McEwen at Creston High from 1999-2002 before attending Ferris State. He was an Associated Press and Detroit Free Press All-State selection and USA Today Dream Team member as a senior with the Polar Bears.

After making the switch from quarterback to wide receiver in college, Brewster finished as Ferris State's second all-time leading receiver with 3,184 yards and 25 touchdowns on 234 catches in 43 games played. He was a two-time First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer and two-time Ferris State Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year.
