Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League are proud to announce that defenseman Dale Lupul has been called up to the Quad City Flames of the American Hockey League.
Lupul, 27, is currently in his third professional season and second with the Mudbugs after spending last year in the United Hockey League. In 38 games this year with the Mudbugs, the Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native has four goals and 13 assists for 17 points to go with 50 penalty minutes and ranks third in the CHL with a +26 rating.
"This is the reason that players come here; to have a chance to win and have their opportunity at the next level," said Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Dale is certainly a player among many who deserve that chance."
Lupul has already played in the Quad City area after ending last season with the Quad City Mallards of the UHL. Playing for both Quad City and Elmira last season, the 6'2", 205 lb. defenseman was selected to the 2007 UHL All-Star Game and finished the year with 22 goals and 49 points. Prior to the 2006-07 season, Lupul attended an NHL training camp with the New York Islanders.
During the 2005-06 season, Lupul led the Mudbugs in rookie scoring with 29 points (7 goals, 22 assists) in 59 games and added 14 more points in the playoffs as Bossier-Shreveport advanced to the President's Cup Finals. He played in the 2006 CHL All-Star Game, was selected to the 2006 CHL All-Rookie team and was a finalist for the league's Most Outstanding Rookie award.
"He's definitely going to be missed, but we wish him the best while he's up there," Muscutt said. "Hopefully for him that will be the rest of the season."
Quad City , the top affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames, is currently on a three-game homestand starting Wednesday night against Houston . The Flames will host Peoria on Friday night and Rockford on Monday. No official word has been given on when Lupul could make his Quad City debut.
