
Hounds Fall To Brahmas 5-3

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds fell to the Texas Brahmas 5-3 on Wednesday night at the Chevrolet Centre. Of the eight goals scored, five came on the power play.
Texas jumped out early as Scott Sheppard scored on the power play at 3:42 to make it 1-0. The Brahmas were 3-6 on the man advantage with their first three goals coming on the power play. The Hounds tied it up on a rare even strength goal as Mark Odut put in his fourth of the year at 4:57 to make it 1-1. Joel Irving scored on the power play at 18:12 to give the Hounds a 2-1 lead after one period. The Hounds were 2-4 with the man advantage. Petr Pohl and Eric Przepiorka had the assists on the Irving goal to extend their point streaks to five games each.
In the second period Anders Strome extended his point streak to 10 games as he scored his 23rd goal of the year at 6:19 to tie the game at two. The Brahmas notched their third straight power play goal and took the lead thanks to Jordan Cameron's first of two goals on the night, this at 10:47 to make it 3-2. The Hounds fought back as Steve Birnstill recorded his sixth of the season with a power play goal at 17:29 to make it 3-3 after two periods.
At 3:48 of the third period Tim Lauila scored his second goal of the season to give the Brahmas a 4-3 lead. Goaltender Brett Jaeger did the rest as he made 35 saves on 38 shots to slam the door on the Hounds. Jordan Cameron added an empty net goal with 25 seconds left to finish the scoring and give the Brahmas the 5-3 win.
The loss snaps Youngstown's four game winning streak as the Hounds are now 26-15-2 (54 points) overall and 10-6-1 at the Chevrolet Centre. The Brahmas improve to 22-18-1 (45 points) with the victory.
The Hounds get one day off before beginning a three game series with the Mississippi RiverKings. The Hounds and Kings are fighting for second place in the Northeast Division and the third seed in the Northern Conference playoff picture.
