Starkov Called Up To Syracuse

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds in conjunction with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League announced today that rookie forward Kirill Starkov has been called up to the AHL franchise.

Starkov, 20, was the sixth round draft pick (#189) for the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In 25 games for Youngstown the rookie from Yekaterinburg, Russia has 10 goals and 12 assists. Of his 22 points, seven have come on a current four game point streak. He also has a three game goal scoring streak for the Hounds. Prior to coming to Youngstown he played eight games for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.

"This is a well deserved call-up for Kirill," said Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "He has played very well lately scoring timely goals and contributing with the helpers. This is why you play the in minors. You hope to get called up and developed to make it to the NHL."

He is fourth SteelHound to be called-up to the AHL this season. Defenseman Stephen Margeson is currently with the Lake Erie Monsters. Forward Petr Pohl played two games with the Syracuse Crunch and goaltender Andy Franck went 7-1-1 with the Providence Bruins.

Starkov will join the Crunch tonight in Rochester, New York as they visit the Rochester Americans. The Syracuse Crunch are the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
