
Dakota wins 6th straight at home

BISMARCK, N.D. January 11, 2008: Forward Carlos Powell helped the Wizards surge past Central Division rival Iowa Energy 105-90 tonight at the Bismarck Civic Center. Powell grabbed a double double in the contest with 23 points while clutching ten boards on the evening to extend the Wizards lead to 2.5 games over now second place Fort Wayne.
Iowa struggled throughout the whole game missing their first eight attempts from the field, as the Wizards jumped out to ten nothing lead to start the game. The shooting woes continued for the Energy as Iowa connected on only 22.8 % thru three quarters of play.
"It wasn't pretty ugly but we will take it," said Wizards Head Coach Duane Ticknor. " It was like there was a lid on the hoop for both teams in the first half, I'm very pleased that our guys were able to adjust to it and play well with a lead".
The Energy, now 9-11 on the season did not have a player in the starting lineup finish in double figures. Guard JamesOn Currey on assignment from the Chicago Bulls struggled all night going 3-17 for six points and four assists. Iowa's bright spots however came from the bench in forward Mike Efevbreha who netted 22 points while pulling down six boards. Guard Jackie Manuel also hit double digits off the bench with 18 points.
The Wizards, now 11-7 on the season were led in scoring by guard Dontell Jefferson who finished with 26 points and seven boards while dishing out four assists. Guard Blake ahearn created a spark off of the bench scoring 17 points in 23 minutes while giving out five assists. Forward Rod Benson dominated the paint scoring 11 points and nabbed eight rebounds while blocking a season high seven shots on the night.
Dakota and Iowa both travel tomorrow to Des Moines where they will face each other again in an afternoon matinee on Sunday at 4:00 CT. The same two teams will meet up yet again on Monday evening in Boise, Idaho at the D-League Showcase.
