'Dads Announce 2012 Opening Day Roster

HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads, South Atlantic League affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have announced their Opening Day Roster for the 2012 campaign. The Crawdads will open the 20th Anniversary Season on the road on Thurs., April 5 against the Kannapolis Intimidators, before returning for the Home Opener at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thurs., April 12 vs. the Asheville Tourists at 7 p.m.
The majority of the 2012 Crawdads will be spending their first season in Hickory, with only six players returning from the 2011 1st-Half Northern Division Champion squad - C Kellin Deglan, RHP Luke Jackson, LHP Will Lamb, RHP Nick McBride (a Winston-Salem native), RHP Randol Rojas and C Kevin Torres. OF Jordan Akins joined the 'Dads late in the 2011 season, but was inactive.
Of the returning players who saw action last season, Deglan (1st, 2010), Jackson (1st, 2010), Lamb (2nd, 2011) and McBride (5th, 2010) were all former top-5 round draft picks. Lamb, who joined the 'Dads late in the 2011 season, started Game 2 of the Northern Division Championship Series for Hickory and dealt five one-run frames with eight strikeouts.
New Crawdads, OF Zach Cone (1st, 2011) and 3B Drew Robinson (4th, 2010), are also former top-5 round draft picks. Additionally, Cone and new addition C Jorge Alfaro rank highly on MLB.com's Prospect Watch List as the 13th and 7th, respectively, best prospects in the Rangers system. Lamb (#14) and Jackson (#17) are also featured on the prospect listing.

The Crawdads 2012 Home Opener is just 13 days away, coming up on Thurs., April 12 vs. the Asheville Tourists at 7 p.m. Don't miss Thirsty Thursday, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings and 1290 WHKY, featuring $1 can beers and Pepsis, as well as the Sneak Peek Night promotion. Gates open at 6 p.m.
All the Opening Weekend FUN continues on Friday, April 13 with Grand Opening Fireworks, presented by Crowne Plaza, Mister Tuxedo and The Big Dawg 92.1FM, and a 7 p.m. first pitch. Then, on Sat., April 14, it's Eric Church Bobblehead Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans with a paid admission, courtesy of Galaxy, Ragu and KICKS 103.3FM. First pitch will be 6 p.m. that Saturday, with gates opening at 5 p.m.
