
D-Fenders Fall to Charge in Canton

CANTON, OH - The Los Angeles D-Fenders fell to the Canton Charge 115-87 tonight in Canton, OH.
Keith Appling led the D-Fenders (5-13) with a season-high 24 points, connecting on 13-of-15 free-throws. Vander Blue tallied 19 points, four rebounds and four assists for L.A., while Jabari Brown (18 points, six rebounds) and Roscoe Smith (14 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double-figures for the D-Fenders.
The Charge (11-7) was led by Arinze Onuaku with 23 points and 13 assists. Antoine Aguidio also eclipsed the 20-point plateau with 22 points, connecting on 6-of-7 threes. Michael Dunigan (11 points, 15 rebounds) recorded a double-double, while Steve Weingarten (16 points) and Stephen Holt (15 points, four assists) finished in double-digits for Canton.
The D-Fenders got off to a slow start, shooting .333 in the first quarter and trailing 34-20 after one. Appling had a team-high six points, while Blue and Smith each added five. It was a different story for Canton, who shot .545 behind 10 points from Holt and eight from Aguidio. Los Angeles picked up the pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Charge 28-27 behind nine points from Brown and seven from Smith. Canton took a 61-48 lead into the half after shooting .548 and converting on 7-of-11 three point attempts.
Los Angeles outscored Canton 28-27 in the third quarter, with Appling leading the way with 10 points. Onuaku led the Charge with 10 points of his own. Canton continued their hot shooting, tallying .550 on the quarter compared to .421 for the D-Fenders. Los Angeles struggled in the fourth quarter, netting a season-low 11 points, while allowing 27 for Canton. The D-Fenders shot just .235, while the Charge managed .529, connecting on 7-of-10 shots from long range.
The Charge led this one wire-to-wire, holding the D-Fenders to .370 from the field, while shooting .544. Canton connected on 15-of-29 three point attempts, compared to 3-of-14 for Los Angeles. The Charge grabbed 46 rebounds, compared to 33 for the D-Fenders. Los Angeles handed out just five assists, while Canton finished with 32 dimes.
The D-Fenders are back home at the Toyota Sports Center on Saturday, January 3rd to host the Reno Bighorns at 6:30pm PT.
