Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League could not sustain their early lead this afternoon at STAPLES Center and fell to the Anaheim Arsenal 109-101.

The D-Fenders led by 16 in the first quarter but were outscored 33-15 in the final quarter.

The Arsenal shot 53% from the field and outrebounded Los Angeles 37-32. Anaheim's bench outscored the D-Fenders reserves 43-20.

"We had a huge fourth quarter. The guys played solid defensively and were very focused. We didn't start with concentration, but our bench was huge today," said Arsenal Head Coach Reggie Geary.

Anaheim was led by guard Davin White and forward Steven Smith. White had 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. Smith led the Arsenal with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Forward Nick Lewis led Los Angeles in scoring and rebounding. He had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Guard Jordan Farmar sparked the D-Fenders offense with 18 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals in 41 minutes.

"Anytime you want to win you have to play defense. We played good defense early. We were talking and communicating, but we just stopped doing that," said D-Fenders guard Jordan Farmar, on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Los Angeles had 15 turnovers and shot 27% from beyond the arc.

"We did not get a lot out of our bench. Our lead disintegrated and I never felt comfortable during this game. I know how Anaheim plays and they just don't go away," said D-Fenders Head Coach Dan Panaggio.

This was the third meeting between the two teams, with the D-Fenders leading the series 2-1. Los Angeles now sits at 21-24 (.467).

At the conclusion of this afternoon's NBA Development League game, Jordan Farmar was recalled by the Los Angeles Lakers. Should Farmar play in this evening's 6:30pm Lakers vs. Kings contest, he would be the first player to see action in both a D-League and NBA game in the same day.

The D-Fenders host the Albuquerque Thunderbirds this Tuesday, Apirl 3 at STAPLES Center, before the Lakers game with a 3:30pm tip-off. This will be the final regular season meeting of the two teams with Albuquerque leading the series 3-2.

Having a Lakers ticket for a STAPLES Center home game is also your ticket to a lower level seat for the D-Fenders. Lakers season ticket holders who attend a D-Fenders home game will receive a special gift, while supplies last, by visiting the Season Ticket Holder Booth on the main concourse at the Figueroa Street Entrance.

On July 31, 2006 the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they had become the first NBA franchise in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Los Angeles D-Fenders play their home games at STAPLES Center pre and post Lakers home games. The Lakers devoted fans were given the opportunity to name the NBA D-League team in an online naming contest.
