D-Fenders Earn Season Sweep of Delaware

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Delaware 87ers 128-124 on Wednesday night at Toyota Sports Center.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (22-15) picked up where they left off on Monday night as they hit nine three-point field goals en route to a 44-point quarter and a nine-point lead. Los Angeles struggled to hold their advantage in the second frame and Delaware (11-30) responded with a strong period to hold a one-point lead with 28 seconds left in the half. However, Terrence Williams threw down a fast-break dunk to end the half and re-secure the lead for Los Angeles. In total, the D-Fenders shot 49.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

In the third quarter, the D-Fenders could not keep their momentum going from the first half and subsequently fell behind by as many as eight points in the period. Los Angeles would however finish the quarter with a 7-0 run to help them carry a two-point advantage into the final frame. Delaware briefly took the lead in the fourth quarter, but the D-Fenders closed the game by converting 12 of their 15 free-throw attempts to eventually earn their 22nd victory of the season.

Manny Harris (44 points, 16 rebounds, six assists), Shawne Williams (24 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks) and Terrence Williams (11 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds) all finished with double-doubles to pace the D-Fenders. Additionally, Brandon Costner (15 points, eight rebounds) and James Southerland (13 points, eight rebounds) finished in double-digits for Los Angeles.

Earning back-to-back double-doubles, Tiny Gallon (40 points, 16 rebounds, six assists) led the 87ers' attack. Also finishing in double-digits for Delaware were Josh Akognon (22 points, eight assists, seven rebounds), Michael Lee (19 points, nine rebounds), Thanasis Antetokounmpo (12 points, eight rebounds) and Vander Blue (10 points, six rebounds).

Overall, the D-Fenders converted eight of 11 second chances for 24 points and 11 of 19 fast break attempts for another 31 points. Those two important stat categories accounted for 42.9 percent of Los Angeles' total point output.

The D-Fenders will now embark on a five-game road trip beginning on Tuesday, March 11th, against the Tulsa 66ers (Oklahoma City Thunder affiliate) at 9:00am, at Chesapeake Energy Arena, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
