D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (July 12, 2006) - D.C. United will continue its United Drives initiative, a community relations program, during United's July home games against Celtic FC (July 12) and the Columbus Crew (July 15). Through the program, the club is looking to gather toiletries to benefit the Dinner Program for Homeless Women and DC Village. Desired items include all toiletries, travel-sized and full-sized, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, cotton swabs, etc. Kick-off for the two matches is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium.
"D.C. United encourages all of our fans to partner with us in collecting these much-needed items," said Catherine Marquette, D.C. United's Director of Community Relations and Executive Director of United for D.C. "We have already received tremendous support this month from our staff and players, and have begun to make a positive impact for these tremendous organizations."
At all D.C. United home games, the United Drives booth will be located outside of RFK Stadium's Gate A and will open two hours prior to kickoff, closing 15 minutes into the first half. Any fan that donates an item will receive, as a thank you from the club, a "Buy One, Get One Free" ticket voucher good for any D.C. United regular season home game as well as a United promotional item. The remaining collection schedule can be found below.
The homeless clients served by the Dinner Program for Women and DC Village come from every racial and ethnic group, may be diagnosed with a mental illness and/or a substance abuse problem, have often been victims of domestic and/or sexual violence, may be living with serious health problems, and may be unemployed and without shelter.
