D.C. United presents the We Win Trophies Tour
August 12, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (August 12, 2009) - D.C. United today announced the We Win Trophies Tour. The 20-day tour will see United's 2008 U.S. Open Cup trophy make a total of 12 stops at local bars in the days leading up to the team's Open Cup championship versus Seattle Sounders FC on September 2 at RFK Stadium.
"The trophies D.C. United has won over the years belong not just to the team, but to our fans and the greater Washington, D.C. community," said United President and CEO Kevin Payne. "We thought it made sense to share our success with our supporters through this We Win Trophies Tour. Though we have a lot of trophies to choose from, we decided it appropriate to visit our fans with the club's most recent trophy and the one we will try to defend on September 2."
The We Win Trophies Tour begins this afternoon at five local establishments during the U.S.-Mexico World Cup Qualifying match. In addition to the U.S. Open Cup trophy, each of the four other bars will host one of United's four MLS Cup trophies. Fans will be able to have their photos taken with the trophy (with photos to be featured on dcunited.com), win special United memorabilia and merchandise and also enter a special We Win Trophies giveaway. The We Win Trophies giveaway includes four (4) fantasy sideline seats to the U.S. Open Cup final and, in honor of the team's 12 major titles, includes a 12-second all-you-can-grab spree through D.C. United's Official Team Store for each of the four guests at the game.
