
D.C. United hosts fourth edition of "La Super Copa"

Washington, D.C. (March 3, 2009) - D.C. United announced today it will host the fourth edition of D.C. United's La Super Copa, a single elimination full side 11-v-11 invitational soccer tournament, presented by Volkswagen and Cox Communications. The tournament draw will take place on March 30, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at El Puente de Oro Restaurant in Langley Park, MD, and all local media are welcome to attend.
The tournament will kick off with first round games on Saturday April 4 and Saturday, April 11 at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field, and will feature 16 elite adult teams from local leagues. Depending on the number of registered teams, preliminary round matches will take place on March 21, 22 and 29 to finalize the list of the 16 finalists. The Cup's championship game is scheduled to be played on May 9. Admission for all games is free of charge.
Registration is free and all of the final 16 participating teams will receive one MLS match ball and a full set of 20 new adidas team uniforms. There will be a cash prize of $5,000 for the Cup winner and $2,000 for the runner-up as well as team trophies and individual medals.
Teams registering for the tournament are required to have won the championship in their local league. Additionally, a 20-player roster limit per game will be enforced. Rosters are due prior to the beginning of the team's games and players may not appear for more than one team in the tournament. A roster freeze will be in effect beginning with the semifinals.
