Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves won their second game in a row, and take the series from the Elizabethton Twins with a 2-1 pitchers' duel extra inning affair. It took ten full innings of baseball but the D-Braves pulled out yet another win to bring their season record to 11-12. Starter Ryan Lawlor worked five innings, giving up the Twins only run of the game in the fourth inning on a AJ Murray solo homerun.
Danville scored first in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead that lasted until the aforementioned solo homerun by Murray. In the second inning, Braves designated hitter reached on an infield single and later advanced to second base on a wild pitch. With Castro in scoring position, outfielder Jose Morel singled to left field and advanced Castro to third base. Short stop Kurt Hoekstra would ground into a double play, however, Castro would score to give the D-Braves the early 1-0 lead.
After Murray's solo homerun for the Twins in the fourth, the score remained deadlocked until the bottom of the tenth inning. The Braves had multiple attempts to win or go ahead in the eighth and ninth inning. In the eighth inning Morel and Trey Keegan reached base but D-Braves hitters could not score the go ahead run. Leudys Baez would single to left field to lead off the ninth inning and was advanced to second on a bunt by second baseman Luke Dykstra. Carlos Castro would strike out and Jose Morel would ground out to third baseman to end the threat.
Kurt Hoekstra would walk to lead off the ninth inning, and Keegan only attempting to advance Hoekstra to second on a bunt beat out a throw that was just late to first base. Ray Didder would then walk to load the bases for Leudys Baez. Baez would see a hanging breaking ball and hit it into left center field, scoring Hoekstra to give the Braves a walk off win in the ninth, and Baez would record his second walk-off hit of the season.
The Braves will begin a three game series tomorrow with the Bristol Pirates, first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. On the mound for the D-Braves will be right hander Matt Withrow, the starter for Bristol has yet to be announced.
