Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - Danville split day two of the back-to-back doubleheaders against Kingsport Friday winning the first game with an impressive offensive showing before the Kingsport staff shut the D-Braves down in game two.
Danville got off to a sizzling start in game one the doubleheader putting up 12 runs to win the game 12-5.
The scoring was started in the fourth as Connor Lien launched a three-run homer over the left field wall to put the D-Braves up 3-0. After Johan Camargo grounded out, Victor Caratini and Bryan De La Rosa churned out back to back doubles to plate Danville's fourth run of the inning.
Kingsport retaliated quickly though putting up five runs in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead 5-4.
Danville would gain the lead back for good in the top of the fourth thanks to a pair of errors by the Kingsport defense. The second error of the inning allowed Alejandro Piloto to score to tie up the game. Anthony Nunez would come in to score later in the inning on a wild pitch by Edioglis Vallasmil.
Danville would add three runs in both the 6th and 7th as they extended the lead to the final of 12-5. The team recorded 12 hits, tied for the most this season, and the Kingsport defense did not help its pitchers out committing four errors in the contest. Kingsport is ranked last in fielding percentage this year at .962 and committed a total of nine errors in the four game series.
Game two was the exact opposite of game one as the D-Braves were shut down by a brilliant pitching performance by Persio Reyes. Reyes threw six innings allowing just two hits and he struck out 11 batters. Andrew Waszak continued his great start to the season allowing just one run in four innings. With the run given up his ERA jumped to a still very impressive 1.02 on the season.
Kingsport got their loan run in the third off a one out single by Joe Tuschak, his 10th RBI of the season.
Danville threatened in the ninth off closer Robert Coles with singles by Piloto and Ronald Luna, but Carlos Sanchez grounded into a double play to end the game.
Danville finishes the game at an even .500 (13-13) and head to face off a 17-10 Elizabethton Twins team that is currently riding a three game win streak. Jared Dettmann is slated to take the mound for Danville in the first matchup this season between two of the most successful teams in Appalachian League history.
