Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - Things started to come undone for the Bluefield Blue Jays early in this contest. The game started off with an error that allowed Sean Godfrey on base. He would later score in the inning thanks to a Jordan Edgerton sacrifice fly.
The offense has been a site to behold here in Danville this season, as the D-Braves have scored at least five runs in nine out of their first ten contests. Edgerton again made his mark on the game tonight with two sacrifice flies, while going 3-4 with a run scored, and the two RBI.
Mike Dodig's bat also did a lot of talking tonight for Danville. Dodig went 3-4 with a double, two RBI, and a walk, his two RBI tonight matched his season total coming into the game. Rookie shortstop Codey McElroy extended his hitting streak to eight games today, going 2-5 with a triple, RBI, and two runs scored. McElroy has gotten a hit in all of his professional contests so far to start his career.
Andry Ubiera was out on the mound for Danville tonight and did not disappoint. In five innings of work Ubiera only surrendered four hits, one run, one walk, and punched out four Jays. Ubiera brought some control to the mound tonight with an exhausting pace to the game. Ubiera seemed to never give hitters a chance to settle in by going into his wind up once the batter entered the box. While Ubiera brought control to the game, the man that finished the game on the bump for Danville brought the heat. Felix Marte, a converted outfielder, finished off the game to secure the victory for Danville in a non-save situation. Marte struck out three batters in two innings, but what stood out for him was the whizzing of his fastball right up to the snap of the catcher's mitt, giving Bluefield batters nothing to work with.
The D-Braves (7-3) were in control all night as they take game one out of three 8-1 over the Jays of Bluefield (4-6). Game two will resume tomorrow evening at 4 p.m. at American Legion Post 325 Field in Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
