
D-Braves manage to only get two hits11

Danville, VA - Bobby Cox was able to put a charge into the crowd, but not into the Danville bats. The D-Braves were shutout on Saturday night 3-0 in a game in which the Bluefield pitching staff only allowed two hits.
Bobby Cox made a special appearance tonight at the Danville Braves game. He greeted all the young Braves talent in the clubhouse before the game. He was then recognized on-field for his many years of service to the Atlanta Braves and the rest of Major League Baseball. Cox was presented with the keys to the city of Danville as 1,239 watched at American Legion Post 325 Field.
The Bluefield hitters quickly took some life out of the crowd in the top of the first inning. Gustavo Pierre, the second batter for Bluefield, singled up the middle followed by a double by Andy Fermin. A wild pitch by Danville starter, David Filak, allowed Pierre to score easily. Art Charles then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to give him his league leading 25th run batted in. It was 2-0 after just half an inning.
The Blue Jays added their final run of the game in the third inning on three straight singles by Fermin, Charles, and Chris Hawkins. The Hawkins single to left scored Fermin from third. That would be the final run of the game scored by either team, it was 3-0.
Myles Jaye (1-1) was lights out for Bluefield until he let up his first hit in the bottom of the third. Kurt Fleming singled through the hole at second base and then stole second. Kyle Kubitza ended the inning with a strikeout. Jaye ended up pitching five innings giving up just the one hit, walking one, and striking out four. He earned his first victory tonight.
The D-Braves only other hit came in the bottom of the seventh, William Beckwith singled up the middle but was unable to go any further on the base paths. Braves hitters left just five on base tonight, going 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
David Filak (0-3) earned a loss. He too went five innings but gave up three earned on six hits. He struck out five. Wilson Rivera, Jonathan Burns, John Cornely, and Mark Lamm eached pitched an inning tonight for Danville. Burns was the only one who gave up a hit. Braves pitches tonight tallied up 12 strikeouts.
Aaron Sanchez earned the save tonight, it was his first of 2011. He went the final four innings for Bluefield. He gave up just one hit, walked two, and struck out seven.
Danville now stands at 8-11 while Bluefield is just the opposite at 11-8. The series concludes tomorrow at 2:00 pm. It will be the first day game for Danville this year.
