Danville Otterbots News Release
Bristol, VA - The D-Braves were able to come away with a 4-3 win on Monday night, but fell by the same score on Tuesday night. The White Sox were able to secure the win in the rubber game of the three game series with Danville. The Sox scored four runs in the first four innings and Danville was unable to recover after that.
Danville's starter, Greg Ross, was having trouble with his control from the first inning. After walking the first batter, he threw wild pitch that allowed Jordan Keegan to advance to second. Two batters later, Ross beaned Grant Buckner with a pitch putting runners at the corners. A single by Michael Marjama scored Keegan, giving Bristol a 1-0 lead. Kyle Robinson added an RBI of his own when he doubled down the left field to score Buckner. Cory Farris tried scoring but was thrown out from right field by Chase Larsson to end the inning.
In the second inning, with a runner on first and two outs, Ross allowed back-to-back singles to Keegan and Johnson. The latter of which scored Jerry Puentes from second base and gave the White Sox a 3-0 lead after two innings.
The D-Braves were unable to get much going before Bristol added another insurance run off of Ross in the fourth inning. After giving up two straight walks, Tyler Williams hit a groundball to Nick Ahmed who turned and threw the ball to Reyes. Reyes stepped on second for the first out but the ball slipped out of his hand and rolled in the middle of the diamond as he tried to turn it to first. As the ball rolled into no man's land, Puentes took off for home and scored. Bristol had a 4-0 lead.
It was not until the sixth that the D-Braves were able to get a runner home. Elmer Reyes doubled as the third batter of the inning which moved Nick Ahmed to third base. A wild pitch by Ethan Icard allowed Ahmed to score Danville's first run and Reyes to reach third base. Brandon Drury grounded out to short on the next play and the Bristol defense allowed Reyes to score. A single by Nick De Santiago plated Chase Larsson later in the inning, but Kurt Fleming ended the inning on a strikeout. Danville had cut the run deficit to one.
Danville was only able to get two more hits in the final three inning of the game. They had runners on first and second with two outs in the ninth but Nick Ahmed struck out to end the game.
Greg Ross (4-2) received his second loss of the season after pitching four innings and giving up all four runs. He walked four in the game. Jarrett Miller pitched three shutout innings in relief for Danville and Daniel Lopez struck out the side in the eighth inning.
Icard (2-2) got the win in Bristol's 4-3 victory. He pitched three innings in relief and allowed all three runs. Ryan Buch started the game for the White Sox but only went one inning because he was on a rehab assignment. Jeffrey Soptic closed the game out and earned his first save of the season.
The Braves travel to Princeton now for a three game series before returning home on August 6 when the Bristol White Sox come to town. Danville is 0-3 against the Rays this season.
