Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA- The D-Braves ended a three game losing streak by defeating the Elizabethton Twins 3-1. Danville was paced by its two pitchers of the night, starter Josh Graham, and his reliever Trevor Belicek. Graham would pitch five solid innings only giving up one run on seven hits, while striking out six Twins. Reliever Trevor Belicek would pick up his second win of the year, and his young career. Belicek took over in the top of the sixth inning and gave up his only hit to the first batter he faced. Belicek would add a pair of strikeouts to his resume for the night as the Braves only allowed one run.
Danville would strike first in the bottom of the third inning. Center fielder Ray DIdder reached on an error by the Twins shortstop Manual Guzman. Leudys Baez would then step to the plate and deliver a single to right field advancing Didder to third base with Luke Dykstra on deck. Dykstra would extend his hitting streak to ten games and give the D-Braves a 1-0 lead. Braves designated hitter Carlos Castro would extend his on base streak to fifteen games as he singled to center field, however a run would not score, as Dykstra was thrown out at third base to end the inning.
Elizabethton would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Twins shortstop Guzman would atone for his error by tripling down the left field line to put himself in scoring position for Twins center fielder Lamonte Wade. Wade who singled home his fourth RBI of the series, also tied the game at 1-1 for the Twins.
Braves would plate runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, Jose Morel would walk to lead off the inning. With Carlos Martinez batting, Twins left fielder Daniel Khile appeared to have tracked the fly ball down, but the ball dropped off his glove and Morel would score to put the D-Braves up 2-1 in the seventh. Leading off the bottom of the eighth inning, Ray Didder would walk to start things off for the D-Braves. Baez would then bunt to advance Didder into scoring position at second base for Carlos Castro. Castro would send an RBI single to left field, advancing to second on the throw home, extending the D-Braves lead to 3-1 and the eventual final score.
