D-Braves Continue Skid; Lose 3-1 to Princeton

July 8, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - It has been a rough go for the D-Braves at the dish on their current road stand. For the second time this season Danville failed to score four runs, and in the loss last night amassed only six hits compared to the 25 hits in the previous two games combined.

Last week Daniel Cordero threw six strong innings against Burlington in Danville striking out six and giving up one run. Against Princeton last night Cordero gave up two runs in the first inning to the Rays. Hector Montes drove in one when he doubled with one out and one on after a Thomas Milone single, and Cordero would contribute to his problems. Two wild pitches would advance Montes to third and then home making it 2-0 Rays after the bottom frame.

Cordero would leave the game with the score 3-1 after striking out eight Princeton batters, and allowing three runs with no walks on seven hits. Colby Holmes would replace Cordero for the remaining two innings, and would not allow a walk, hit, or run for Danville.

Jordan Edgerton led off the top of the fourth with a first pitch single off of Rays' starter Freddy Alvarez. Mike Dodig would put Edgerton on third on a ground ball single to center and Codey McElroy would sacrifice Edgerton in for Danville's only run of the evening. The last run was charged to Cordero, after a Manny Sanchez double to center and sacrifice fly from Riley Unroe to bring him in one batter later. That gave the Rays the edge 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth.

Sean Godfrey continues to be a strong leadoff man for Danville. The center fielder went 2-4 in the loss to Princeton, but has raised his batting average to a team high and Appy League 4th best .397.

Danville continues to hang on to first place in the Appalachian League East, ahead of Princeton and Pulaski by a full game. The series stays and finishes in Princeton tonight, as the Danville Braves (11-7) continue their road trip against the Princeton Rays (10-8) at Hunnicutt Field at 7:00 p.m.
