Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, VA - The D-Braves took a game two victory from Bristol Thursday night 8-4 over the Bristol Pirates, and along with some help from the Bluefield Blue Jays who defeated the Pulaski Mariners, the D-Braves remain in the playoff hunt going into the final game of the regular season, looking to steal second place and the final playoff spot in the East.
Tonight's contest was all about Fernelys Sanchez, who crushed his second home run of the season in the fifth inning that put the D-Braves up for good 5-4. Jose Morel got things going in the fifth for the D-Braves leading off with a single. Two batters later, a Wigberto Nevarez walk then set up Sanchez with two on and two out, and Sanchez deposited the ball deep over the right field fence for a three run homer. Sanchez finished the game 1-2, and with a team high three walks on the night.
Oriel Caicedo got his first win as a Danville Brave on the night while allowing just one earned run in 6.0 innings of work. Caicedo gave up four hits and four runs, but only one run counts against the lefty because of three Danville errors throughout the night, two of which by catcher Tanner Murphy on throwing errors directly resulting in runs.
Jose Morel started the year with Danville, and when he was hovering around a .130 batting average, sent down to the GCL to work out his swing. Since his return to the D-Braves, Morel has raised his average to .209 on the season after going 3-5 with two runs scored on the evening hitting cleanup Thursday night.
The Danville Braves (37-30) will play their last regular season game of the year tomorrow night in Bristol against the Pirates (22-45). Danville needs to win, and Pulaski needs to lose for the D-Braves to make the playoffs as Pulaski holds the tiebreaker. Pulaski will play the Bluefield Blue Jays in Bluefield at 1:05 p.m., while the Braves and Pirates are scheduled for a first pitch at 7:00 p.m. at Boyce Cox Field.
