D-Braves Announce Official 2014 Roster

DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves have released their official roster for the 2014 Appalachian League season. The roster consists of 35 players, including 17 pitchers, three catchers, eight infielders, and seven outfielders. Within the opening day roster, 13 players were selected in the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The 2014 cast of D-Braves looks to return to the winning ways of 2006 and 2009, the D-Braves two Appy League title seasons. Pitcher Matt Kimbrel, brother of Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel, and pitcher Michael Flores, named Appy League Pitcher of the Week for 7/8-7/14 in 2013, will return to the bump for the D-Braves in 2014.
The third round selection of the Braves in 2014, pitcher Max Povse, will begin his professional career in Danville. Selected 102nd overall, the 6'8" righty is a local product out of UNC Greensboro. Povse led the UNCG Spartans in appearances (15), starts (15), and strikeouts (81) during his junior year. Povse also threw two complete games, and surrendered a mere 27 walks in 79.1 innings pitched.
Infielder Jordan Edgerton, selected in the ninth round (283rd overall) of the 2014 draft, is another local product set to start his professional career with the D-Braves. Edgerton was a stalwart for the UNC Pembroke Braves for the past three seasons before signing with the Atlanta Braves. For his 143 game collegiate career, Edgerton batted an astounding .352, with 22 homeruns, 142 RBI, and had only 38 strikeouts in 591 plate appearances.
The D-Braves season opener is Thursday, June 19, 2014 as they hit the road to face the Kingsport Mets. The D-Braves home opener is on Wednesday, June 25 at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park at 7 p.m. as the Braves will host the Greeneville Astros.
