Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ – The Tucson Sidewinders have announced that they have confirmed reservations and bought tickets and lunches for over 6,000 local school children, some coming from as far away as Silver City, New Mexico.

The students range from kindergarteners through eighth graders, and will come from schools all around Southern Arizona. D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day is Wednesday, May 7 at 10:10 a.m. vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes. Lunch is provided by the Sidewinders, and includes a hot dog and milk for each child.

D.A.R.E., which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and G.R.E.A.T., short for Gang Resistance Education and Training, are two nationwide programs taught in schools and sponsored by local law enforcement agencies. D.A.R.E. teaches kids how to recognize and resist the pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco and drugs. G.R.E.A.T. advocates non-violence by teaching kids how to develop positive attitudes toward police officers, avoid conflicts and peer pressure, be responsible, and set positive goals.

Schools still needing to RSVP can do so by contacting Sidewinders Director of Community Relations Sergio Pedroza at 520-434-1021 or via email at sergio@tucsonsidewinders.com.

The game will start at 10:10 a.m. with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. For more information on D.A.R.E./G.R.E.A.T. Day, the Tucson Sidewinders, ticket plans, merchandise or sponsorship opportunities please call 520-434-1021 or visit www.tucsonsidewinders.com.
