Jamestown Jammers News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones used a big inning to beat the Jammers by a 5-2 score for the second night in a row Thursday at MCU Park.
The Cyclones (34-24) stormed back with four runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Jammers and take sole possession of the wild card, while the loss drops the Jammers (29-30) a game below .500 for the ï¬Ârst time since the third game of the season.
Austin Barnes paced the Jammers with two singles and three stolen bases. Nestor Castillo and Pedro Mendoza each had a single as the Jamestown offense was held to just four hits.
The Jammers took an early lead in the third inning, but it came after a lengthy delay.
Austin Barnes started the frame with a single then stole second and third. Ryan Goetz then walked before the game was delayed over an hour due to rain. When action resumed, Mendoza lined one off the second baseman's glove that skipped into right ï¬Âeld to make it 1-0.
However, that lead did not last long as Brooklyn tied the game in the ï¬Âfth. Cole Frenzel singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a single then scored on another wild pitch.
The game would stay tied until right after fans got on their feet to stretch.
Brian Harrison started the bottom of the seventh with a walk and scored on a double by Frenzel. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, a wild pitch plated another run. Daniel Muno followed with a one-run double before a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây delivered the ï¬Ânal run of the frame.
For the second night in a row the Jammers would attempt to mount a comeback in the ninth inning, and it all started with two outs again. Castillo ripped a single then moved to second on defensive indifference. Barnes plated him with a single of his own before the ï¬Ânal batter was retired to leave the tying run in the on-deck circle again.
Frenzel pounded out three hits with two runs and a double for the Cyclones. Muno also chipped in a double and a RBI, and Tyler Pill earned the win after striking out two in a scoreless inning.
Holden Sprague took the loss after giving up four runs without recording an out.
The Jammers will try to avoid being swept for the ï¬Ârst time all season Friday at 7:05 p.m.
