April 7, 2004 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY April 8, 2004 - The Brooklyn Cyclones are pitching in across the borough by providing assistance to a variety of youth baseball organizations. To kick off Operation S*T*R*I*K*E (Striving To Restore & Improve Kids' Equipment) - the team's new equipment donation program - the Cyclones are donating $10,000 worth of brand-new baseball equipment to six deserving local organizations.

*It is very expensive for parents to outfit their child to play baseball,* says Steve Cohen, General Manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones. *The Cyclones have launched Operation S*T*R*I*K*E to ensure that children in Brooklyn who want to play will have the proper gear.*

In addition to this year's donation, the team will have an equipment drive throughout the season, starting on June 22nd. Fans will be encouraged to bring old and new gear to the ballpark to be distributed to little leagues throughout the borough. Equipment being donated by the Cyclones this year includes almost 1,000 baseballs, catcher's gear, gloves, bats, hitting tees, bases and scorekeepers books. The Cyclones will donate the equipment to six Brooklyn little leagues in 2004 and hope to expand that number in the coming years. Youth baseball organizations based in Brooklyn can contact the Cyclones to apply for next year's equipment donation. People interested in making donations should contact Rob Field at 718-449-8497.

This year's recipients are: Our Lady of Solace Little League (Coney Island), St. Michael's Little League (Borough Park), Starrett City Youth Federation (Canarsie), Gerritsen Beach Little League (Gerritsen Beach), Kiwanis Little League (Dyker Heights), Our Lady of Grace Gravesend Little League (Gravesend).

The Brooklyn Cyclones are the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. The Cyclones play at KeySpan Park, the 7,500-seat stadium in Coney Island, recently named *Best Short-Season Ballpark in the Country* by Baseball America. In 2003, the Brooklyn Cyclones completed an exciting season by playing in the league championship series.

Season Tickets and Mini Plans for the 2004 campaign are available now. Individual tickets will go on sale in late April. Fans can call 718-449-8497 or visit www.brooklyncyclones.com for more information.
