Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
WHO: The 2013 Brooklyn Cyclones!
WHAT: The Brooklyn Cyclones will kick off their 13th season of baseball at home this year, battling the cross-town rival Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park in Coney Island on Tuesday, June 18th. In many ways, with a brand new field and ballpark renovations now complete, it will look and feel like their first season coming off the damage inflicted by Superstorm Sandy.
Once gates open, as always, players and coaches will be on the front gate steps signing autographs and taking photos with the fans until around 5:45 PM.
Each player will be wearing a jersey bearing the name of an area affected by Sandy on their back in place of their own name. They will be lining up pre-game for the national anthem on the foul line, each accompanied by a child from an area affected by the storm. During the game, the team will be selling tickets for its Jersey Off The Backs raffle where a lucky fan has a chance to win one of the on-field jerseys. The money raised from the raffle will go to various charities to help folks still dealing with the fallout of the storm.
Singing the National Anthem will be 11 year-old Adrian Santiago!
After the game, there will be homecoming fireworks that will light up the Coney Island skyline, and everyone in attendance gets to run the bases!
WHEN: Tuesday, June 18th at 7:00 PM (gates open at 5:30) *Batting practice will begin on the field at around 3:30
WHERE: MCU Park, Coney Island
1904 Surf Avenue at West 17th Street Subway: D, F, N, Q to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue
