Denver Cutthroats News Release

Denver - Coming off the Cutthroats 4-1 victory on opening night against the Tulsa Oilers, the teams faced each other once again for the second night in the two-game series on Saturday, October 19. After winning in an 18-round shootout 3-2, the Cutthroats swept the opening weekend series against the Oilers.

With less than a second left in the scoreless opening period, Oilers Ryan Menei (Todd Robinson) sent the puck past Denver's Kieran Millan to put up the first numbers on the board for the night. The Oilers didn't wait long to extend their lead early in the second period, as Ryan Cramer (Eric Tallent and Robinson) put the score at 2-0.

The Cutthroats took advantage of a five-on-three power play as J.P. Chabot (Troy Schwab and Garett Bembridge) netted the team's first goal of the night. Denver was quick to tie up the game as A.J. Gale (Schwab) put the score at 2-2 and sent the game into overtime.

The score remained 2-2 at the end of the overtime period, sending the game into a shootout. After a scoreless five rounds, the shootout continued into sudden death. Thomas Beauregard snuck the puck past Millan, but Denver's T.J. Fox quickly responded to keep the shootout alive. In the 14th round, Tulsa's Ben Gordon gave them the chance to come out with the victory, when Denver's Garett Bembridge answered with a goal to continue the electrifying shootout. In the 18th round, Steve Kaunisto won it for the Cutthroats and completed the sweep of the Oilers with a final 3-2.

The Denver Cutthroats take on the Wichita Thunder on Friday, October 25 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, October 26 at 6:00 PM at the Denver Coliseum. For ticket information, call 866.464.2626 or visit DenverCutthroats.com.
