St. Charles Chill News Release
St. Charles, Mo. - The St. Charles Chill battled back from a 2-0 third period deficit to force overtime on a goal from Martin Hlinka at the 19:49 before falling in the shootout to the Missouri Mavericks 3-2.
St. Charles (0-1) fell behind late in the first period on an unassisted goal from Anders Franzon with a minute remaining in the period. The Chill goalie Mathieu Corbeil made a series of great saves to end the first to keep the score close.
The Mavericks (1-0) started the second period with a goal just under two minutes in and took what was a commanding lead the way both goalies were playing. St. Charles missed out on several power play opportunities but finally broke open the scoring in the third period.
Jordan Fox was credited with the first goal in franchise history when a crossing pass was deflected into the Mavs net to close the gap to 2-1, where it stayed until the final minutes of the third period. David Strathman received a pass from Steven Makway and slid it across to Hlinka who buried the one timer to even the score at two.
Following a scoreless overtime, Fox added a goal on his first shootout attempt to give the Chill their first lead but Mavericks goalie Shane Owen stopped the next three attempts while Missouri's John-Scott Dickson and Mike Ramsay buried their attempts before Eric Castonguay put the game away.
The Chill will be back on the ice on Friday, October 25th at 7:05 when they take on the defending CHL Champion Allen Americans.
