Cutthroats Lose Battle in Rapid City

Rapid City - The Denver Cutthroats road series continued in Rapid City, South Dakota on Friday, January 17 against the Rapid City Rush. The Rush defeated the Cutthroats 4-1, giving Denver the team's 11th loss of the season and seventh on the road.

Rapid City's Konrad Reeder (Sean Erickson, Brett Kostolansky) scored the first goal of the night to take an early lead in the opening period. Winston Day Chief (Reeder, Jesse Schultz) fired the Rush's second puck past Cutthroats netminder Travis Bosch. Bosch joined the Denver Cutthroats for his first game on Friday night after playing 11 games with the Columbus Cottonmouths from the SPHL.

Thirty seconds into the second period, Garett Bembridge (Steve Kaunisto, Troy Schwab) scored the first and only goal of the night for the Denver Cutthroats. Winston Day Chief (Kostolansky, Schultz) fired his second puck to the back of the Cutthroats net to give the Rush a 3-1 lead.

In the last moments of the game, the Denver Cutthroats pulled Travis Bosch from the net to add an extra attacker on the offense. Justin Sawyer took advantage of the empty net and scored the fourth and final goal of the night to give the Rapid City Rush a 4-1 victory over the Denver Cutthroats.

The Denver Cutthroats and Rapid City Rush will meet again Saturday, January 18 at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. The Cutthroats will return home to play the final pair games of the Colorado Tour on Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25 at Dobson Ice Arena in Vail.
