Cutters Sunk By Spirit 10-3

(West Haven, CT- August 21, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters couldnft protect two leads and dropped a 10-3 ballgame to the North Shore Spirit at Yale Field.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the first, the Cutters tied things up on a ground out by Jimmy Hurst that scored Jose Mateo from third.

The Cutters took the lead in the second inning on Jeff Brookfs solo homer, his third of the season.

After the Spirit tied it at 2 on a Vic Davilla long ball, New Haven would retake the lead on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Brooks. Their were three lead changes and the game was tied four times.

North Shore would open it up in the sixth with four runs against starter Tim Keinath. The exclamation point was added against the Cutter bullpen that allowed four runs combined in the seventh and eight innings to give the Spirit a 10-3 victory.

Spirit starter Edison Reynoso and reliever Nick Vandergriff combined to retire 17 of the final 18 Cutter batters they faced.

Mike Granger went 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and a run scored for North Shore.

The Cutters take on the North Shore Spirit in the final game of the series tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
