
Cutters Roll Over Rox 8-2

New Haven County Cutters News Release
(Brockton, MA- August 18th, 2004) The New Haven County Cutters won their first series of the second half on Wednesday afternoon, topping the Brockton Rox 8-2 in the finale of the their three game series at Campanelli Stadium.
In the bottom of the first, Hector Henriquez hit a solo home run off New Haven starter Ryan Bonesio, giving the Rox an early 1-0 lead. The Cutters tied the game in the bottom of the second on a two out RBI single by Jeff Brooks.
In the fifth New Haven broke the 1-1 tie as Billy Rich hit a solo homerun off Rox starter John Cook giving the Cutters the lead at 2-1. The homer was RichÂfs first since June 6th and third of the season. Rich finished the game going 3-for-4 with a single, double, homer and two RBIs.
In the seventh, New Haven added to its 2-1 lead as Rich delivered a RBI double scoring Adam Shorsher who led off the inning with a triple. Later in the inning, P.J. Johnston came through with a two out RBI double that plated Rich and extended the lead to 4-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rox got the first two men on base on a hit batsmen and a fielding error by pitcher Ryan Bonesio. Chad Stewart then hit a RBI single scoring Mike Sandoval and cutting the New Haven lead to 4-2. Bonesio was then lifted for righty reliever Luke Lambo who was able to work out of a bases loaded jam and keep the lead at two.
In the eighth, the Cutters capitalized on the control problems of Rox reliever Benji Daquin who threw three consecutive wild pitches allowing Jimmy Hurst to score all the way from first with New HavenÂfs fifth run. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, third basemen Jeff Brooks ripped a two RBI double off reliever Tony Stutz giving the Cutters some insurance and a 7-2 lead. Jose Mateo later added a RBI sacrifice fly for New Haven extending the lead to six.
Ryan Bonesio (4-5) pitched 6.1 strong innings for the Cutters, allowing two runs on four hits to earn the win. John Cook (0-3) took the loss allowing eight hits and four run in six innings.
