New Haven County Cutters News Release

With the New Haven County Cutters closing in on a possible berth in the Can-Am League playoffs, the team has announced that tickets to individual playoff games will go on sale Friday. Coincidentally, Friday (7:05, Yale Field) marks the start of the final four-game regular season home series and is against the team that the Cutters would face in the first round of the playoffs, the Worcester Tornadoes.

Playoff ticket prices range from $7 to $13, one dollar more than in the regular season.

Tickets can be purchased at the team's website www.CuttersBaseball.com, over the phone at 203-777-5636 or by visiting the Yale Field box office.

Playoff Scenarios and Schedule

Entering play on Tuesday, the Cutters held a game and a half advantage over the Tornadoes. To make the playoffs, the Cutters must either win the South Division outright or have an identical second half winning percentage to the Tornadoes, who have already booked a ticket to the post-season with their first half division title.

Because the Cutters need only to tie the Tornadoes to advance, it reduces the team's magic number to five. The magic number is the combined number of Cutters wins and Tornadoes losses it will take to get New Haven County into the playoffs.

The two divisional series begin next Wednesday (September 7). Should the Cutters qualify, they will play the first two games of the best of five series at Worcester, followed by game threes, four and five at Yale Field September 9-10-11 (Friday-Sunday). The final two will be played only if the series has not been decided.

The league championship is slated to start on September 13. The Cutters would be on the road for the first two games, then would play the next three at home September 15-16-17.

Cutters to Host Little League Softball Finalists on Friday

Prior to Friday night's 7:05 game, the Cutters will honor the Orange Little League softball team, which made a remarkable run to the finals of the World Series. The team, consisting of 11-12 year old girls, has been one of the stories of the summer in Connecticut as it battled through national and global competition to come within one game of being crowned world champs.

After completing a perfect regular season (25-0), the team rolled through the World Series undefeated until finally dropping the championship game, 6-2 to McLean, VA.
