
Corporan's blast leads New Jersey

Little Falls, NJ - Elvis Corporan and Steve Checksfield did much of the heavy lifting as the Jackals topped the visiting Worcester Tornadoes 7-4 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The Tornadoes took an early 2-0 lead through the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Josh Beauregard and Lucas Taylor. However, the scoring stopped on a phenomenal catch by Steve Checksfield, which saw the left fielder slam into the wall while making a catch, saving two runs.
The Jackals cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, and then surged ahead with four in the bottom of the sixth. After a Zach Smithlin groundout tied the game at two, Elvis Corporan crushed a Reid Willett over the centerfield wall to make it 5-2.
Worcester made it close in the next frame behind a sacrifice fly and RBI single, but New Jersey tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.
Checksfield finished the evening 3-for-5 with 2 doubles, and Corporan added a sacrifice fly to end with 4 RBI. Mike Rucci also added two hits and scored twice.
Starter Marty Janzen went seven effective innings, scattering 12 hits and allowing four runs, with only one being earned. Randy Rapp and Fabricio Benitez eached pitched a scoreless inning to keep New Jersey in front.
For the visitors, Keith Beauregard was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored a double, and Chris Colabello chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
