Cutters Crushed in Series Finale

July 10, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

The New Haven County Cutters dropped the rubber match of their three-game series against division rival New Jersey Jackals 14-2 on Sunday afternoon, surrendering 16 hits in the process. The win tied the season series at three wins for each team.

The Jackals got off to a fast start off Cutters' starter Tim Keinath and never looked back. After a three-run scoring outburst in the third inning opened up a 4-1 lead for New Jersey, the suddenly anemic New Haven County did little to offer any opposition. Joe Orloski was sharp all game, pitching seven strong innings for the Jackals, allowing only six hits and two earned runs.

There were myriad offensive highlights for the Jackals; none more memorable than shortstop Chris Rowan's colossal blast that cleared Yale Field's 25-foot wall in straightaway center field. It was his second home run in as many days.

Jackals' third baseman Elvis Corporan continued his hot hitting, going 3 for 4, scoring twice and driving in three. The previous night he had three consecutive doubles in the first game of the doubleheader. Leadoff man Zach Smithlin reached base all five times he was up, recording four hits and a walk.

The Cutters' catcher Andy Larned was the only player for the home side with multiple hits, registering two singles.

The final series of the first half begins on Monday, when the Cutters welcome the Can-Am Grays to Yale Field. First pitch is at 7:05 with Rolando Valles (2-4) taking the mound for the home team.
