Altoona Curve News Release

ERIE, Pa - Shelby Ford's two-run blast with two outs in the top of the seventh inning off of Erie starter Andy Oliver powered the Altoona Curve to a 2-1 win - their season-high fifth straight victory - as the Curve completed a four-game series sweep of the Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit Tigers) on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.

Curve starter Justin Wilson appeared to be heading for yet another tough-luck loss, as the lefty allowed just one run over 6.0 innings of work on two hits while striking out a season-high 10 batters.

Erie would take a 1-0 lead off of Wilson in the third inning when a double-steal took place allowing Chris White to cross the plate and put the SeaWolves (23-21) ahead by a run.

Oliver cruised over 6.2 innings striking out nine Curve batters before the Ford homer. The 2009 Tigers' second-round pick allowed just five base runners during the game prior to the Ford bomb.

Wilson earned his first victory since April 12 not only because of the offensive support - it was the first two runs the Curve scored on Wilson's behalf since a May 2 start at Harrisburg -- but also because of solid relief pitching to help preserve the one-run lead. Dustin Molleken allowed just one hit over 2.0 shutout frames that was highlighted by four strikeouts in the seventh and eighth and Daniel Moskos tossed a scoreless ninth inning to notch his 10th save of the season, which is second best in the Eastern League.

Sunday's win for Altoona places them a season-high 11 games over .500.

The Altoona Curve will continue their eight-game, seven-day road trip on Monday night as they open the first of four games against the Akron Aeros (AA - Cleveland Indians) at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. RHP Tim Alderson (2-2, 6.08) makes the start for the Curve while the Aeros will oppose with lefty Scott Barnes (1-4, 6.11).

Air time is 6:35 p.m. on flagship radio station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM in Altoona and other Curve Radio Network affiliates.
