New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Bowie, MD- Eric Thames hit a solo home run and an RBI single, and Zach Stewart turned in his second straight quality start by allowing two runs on five hits in six innings, but Pedro Florimon's eighth-inning grand slam helped the Bowie Baysox knock off the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at Prince George's Stadium.

Leading 3-2 with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Florimon (1-for-3, GS, SAC, 4 RBI) took Tim Collins over the left field wall for his first home run of the season. Three of the runs were charged to losing pitcher Vince Bongiovanni (4-1), who saw his nine-outing scoreless streak snapped after yielding four runs on four hits and two walks in one-plus inning, with one strikeout, to suffer his first loss.

Pat Egan (4-1) earned the win with two shutout innings of relief, scattering two hits.

Pedro Beato pitched a scoreless ninth, as Bowie (21-22) took two out of the three games from the first-place Fisher Cats (26-16) in the series.

Steve Lerud (1-for-3, HR, HBP) staked Bowie to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when he connected on Stewart's 3-1 pitch for a tape-measure homer to right, his first.

The Fisher Cats countered in the top of the fourth when Thames (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) launched Chorye Spoone's first pitch of the inning over the right field fence for his eighth home run of the season, tying the game 1-1.

Thames gave New Hampshire the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-out ground single to right, plating Luis Sanchez (1-for-3, R) for a 2-1 advantage.

Spoone worked six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, with two walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision.

The Baysox again squared the game, 2-2, courtesy of Brandon Waring's sixth homer of the year, a two-out solo blast in the bottom of the sixth off Stewart.

Bowie grabbed the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Facing Bongiovanni, Carlos Rojas (2-for-5, RBI) drove in Matt Angle (2-for-4, BB, R) with a two-out RBI single to right for a 3-2 lead.

New Hampshire opens a five-game series in New Britain on Monday night at 6:35pm, sending right-hander B.J. LaMura (0-0, 1.50) to the mound for his first start against New Britain right-hander Mike McCardell (0-4, 4.50).
