Curran Named Coach Of The Year

March 24, 2003 - SPHL (SPHL)
Macon Trax News Release

Brian Curran of the Macon Trax is the Atlantic Coast Hockey League Coach of the Year.

Curran, in his fourth year of professional coaching, posted his fourth winning season, leading the Trax to a record of 31-28 and a third place finish in the regular season. The Trax won 15 of their last 20 games in the regular season.

"This is really a nice honor, but more a tribute to our players as much as anything," Curran said. "When we were 8-18 the guys could have given up but they really battled to overcome a lot and came a long way."

The Trax lost their semi-final President's Cup playoff series to the regular season champion Orlando Seals, three games to none, with all three games being decided by one goal. That was nothing new to the Trax who had over half their regular season games decided by one goal. Macon went 16-15 in one goal games during the regular season.

This is the second time Curran has won Coach of the Year. He was also honored in 1999-00 by the Western Professional Hockey League as Coach of the Year when he coached the Monroe Moccasins. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins as the first player taken in the second round of the 1982 Entry Draft. He went on to play 381 games in the NHL.

Monday night the Trax will hold their jersey auction at Locos Deli and Pub, following their hockey happy hour. The Hockey Happy Hour can be heard on the internet at www.macontrax.com or www.IRN.FM .

Season tickets for 2003-04 are now on sale. For more information on the Trax, contact the Trax office at (478) 743-6010.
