Daytona Tortugas News Release

The Daytona Cubs have announced that Wendy's will be the proud sponsor of Opening Day at Jackie Robinson ballpark. This will be the first chance for Cubs fans to see the team as they begin the defense of their 2008 Florida State League Championship on April 10 versus the Brevard County Manatees.

The gates will open at 5 p.m. on Friday Night and there will be numerous festivities for fans to enjoy. The Cubs will have inflatables for children along the Riverwalk, appearances by the Wendy's girls, numerous prizes to be given away, and a huge postgame fireworks extravaganza.

The 2008 opener at Jackie Robsinson Ballpark brought over 4,300 Daytona Cubs faithful to the park, but Cubs General Manager Bill Papierniak is hoping for more in 2009. "It was a great atmosphere last year, but with everything that will be going on at 'The Jack' and all that Wendy's is doing we think this year will be even better, especially with the biggest fireworks show Daytona Beach has ever seen."

Wendy's Marketing Director Jenny Valenti is happy to once again team up with the Cubs. "We have a great relationship with the Cubs and we are excited to be a part of Opening Day at 'The Jack.'"
