Miami FC News Release
Miami, FL - Miami FC announced the signing of Cuban midfielder Ariel Martinez today. Martinez marks the 10th midfield roster spot.
"Martinez's quick, but simple style paired with his invaluable experiences abroad makes him an excellent addition to round out our roster," said Alessandro Nesta, Miami FC head coach. "Now that our team is complete, we can focus our efforts into developing as a team and creating an unrivaled dynamic."
The talented 29-year-old brings an internationally recognized reputation. During his time with the Cuban national team, Martinez netted 34 goals and collected 58 caps. Not to mention, he delivered some technically sound performances including his hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Belize in the 2013 Gold Cup.
Martinez was a loyal player of the CONCACAF underdog and also played for his hometown's soccer club FC Sancti SpÃritus. However, in the group stages of last year's gold cup, Martinez made the move to the USL's Charleston Battery. After a year with the Battery, Martinez made the move to Miami and joined Nesta and the Miami FC.
The Miami FC home opener is on April 9th against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at FIU.
