FC Edmonton News Release
FALKIRK, SCT - FC Edmonton (1-0-0) returns to the pitch for their second preseason match in three days, facing Scottish Professional Football League's Airdrieonians FC, Mar. 15 at Excelsior Stadium. Kick-off in the match is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. MT. It's the second of four matches the Eddies will play in a total of 12 days.
Airdrie currently sit fourth in the 10-team SPFL's League 1 division with 38 points through 29 matches. Veteran striker Jim Lister leads his squad with six goals in 11 appearances during the 2015-16 SPFL season. Acting head coach Danny Lemon 'vowed to use this week to help his players over the shock of losing their gaffer' Eddie Wolecki Black, who will miss the remainder of his club's season after a medical incident just days ago.
FC Edmonton is coming off a Mar. 13, 2-0 victory over Partick Thistle FC at New Tinto Park, where recent signings Nik Ledgerwood and Jake Keegan registered goals in the first and second halves, respectively. Similar to Monday's contest versus Partick Thistle, the team will likely see a heavy rotation of players throughout the match once again.
While Monday's Partick Thistle squad featured a strong contingent of youth talent, Wednesday's opponents are expected to field several first team players, combined with a mixture of Academy standouts against the visiting Eddies squad.
"It's a great opportunity for the younger ones should they start or come off the bench against a top side from a rising league like the NASL," Lemon explained to airdriefc.com. "We look forward to welcoming FC Edmonton and it should be an entertaining encounter."
The Eddies will be looking to add a second victory in as many matches as they hit the halfway mark of their Scotland preseason schedule. Following their match against Airdrie, the team will take a two-day reprieve from game action, before travelling to face Newcastle United U-21. The team wraps up their trip with a match against Queens Park FC before travelling back to Edmonton.
Admission to Tuesday's match is £5 for adults and £2 for kids.
