Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

NORWICH, Ct. - In their final home game of the 2018 New York-Penn League season, the Connecticut Tigers (28-38) tallied three base hits and fell short of a three-game sweep against their division rivals in a 7-0 loss to the Lowell Spinners (34-35) on Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium.

Tigers starter Gio Arriera (Loss, 2-5) allowed seven earned runs. Following a dropped strike three that would've ended the fifth inning, Lowell scored four times including a three-run homer from third baseman Nick Northcut in his NYPL debut.

Connecticut grounded into two double plays and recorded two hits against Lowell starter Nick Machamer (Win, 1-2) during his six shutout innings. Relievers Alex Demchak and Victor Garcia followed with four more scoreless frames and one hit allowed. The Tigers recorded no extra-base hits as Alexis Garcia, Jordan Verdon, and Gresuan Silverio tallied one single each.

Tigers reliever Felix Viloria tossed three scoreless innings with one hit, three walks, and two strikeouts. Following the loss, Connecticut was officially eliminated from Stedler Division title contention and finished the 2018 home schedule with a 19-18 record.

On Wednesday, the Tigers open their season-ending, eight-game road trip with a doubleheader in Aberdeen, Maryland. Connecticut righty Carlos Guzman (3-3, 3.30) is scheduled to start with first pitch scheduled at 5:35 p.m. in the first of two seven-inning games. Coverage on the Norwich Courtyard by Marriott Connecticut Tigers Radio Network begins at 5:20 p.m. on WICH 1310 AM and online at CTTigers.com.
