C's Win Streak Snapped At Four With 3-2 Loss To Eugene

August 6, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release

Eugene, OR- The Vancouver Canadians held two separate leads against Eugene on Friday night, but couldn't hold on as the Ems got a sacrifice fly from Kevonte Mitchell in the bottom of the 6th inning helping snap Vancouver's four-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory out at PK Park.

The C's got on the board in the top of the 1st inning when 2B Cavan Biggio walked and eventually came around to score on a two-out single from CF J.B. Woodman. After the Emeralds tied up the game in the 3rd inning, Woodman helped Vancouver get back in front when he doubled and scored on C Javier Hernandez's RBI single in the top of the 5th.

C's starter RHP Dalton Rodriguez cruised through the first four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth. The first four Emeralds to come to the plate reached base, with one run coming home on an RBI bunt single from CF D.J. Wilson, but that was it as Rodriguez kept the game tied with a double play and strikeout to leave the bases loaded.

Eugene then pushed across the winning run in the 6th inning, as Marcus Mastrobuoni walked, moved to third on a pair of wild pitches, and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kevonte Mitchell. The run proved to be all the Emeralds needed, as the final 12 Canadians hitters went down in order to close out the game.

The Canadians recorded just five hits in the contest, with Woodman picking up two of them. SS Yeltsin Gudino went 0-for-4 on Friday, and had his on-base streak snapped at 18 consecutive games.

With the loss, Vancouver falls to 4-4 (.500) in the second half and 20-26 on the season, while Eugene improves to 3-5 (.375) and 31-15. The Canadians remain one game back of first place Everett in the second half North Division standings.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday in the third game of the five-game series at PK Park in Eugene, first pitch set for 7:05pm. Vancouver sends RHP Denis Diaz (0-0, 4.50) to the mound in search of the Canadians second victory of the series.

The Canadians will return back home to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, August 9 for a crucial three-game series against first-place Everett.
