(Ron Tonkin Field - Hillsboro, OR) - Hillsboro catcher Andy Yerzy and SS Geraldo Perdomo hit solo home runs to power the Hillsboro Hops to a 7-4 victory over the Vancouver Canadians on Thursday night out at Ron Tonkin Field. The loss sends Vancouver back to .500 (24-24, 5-5) on the season with the loss and a lone game back of Spokane in the North Division with 26 regular season games remaining.
The Canadians got multi-hit nights from LF Otto Lopez (2-for-5), 3B Bryan Lizardo (2-for-4, 2RBI) and 1B Jake Brodt (2-for-4) in the loss as Vancouver got to Hillsboro starter RHP Matt Mercer for four runs on six hits over his two innings of work building an early 4-2 lead. Vancouver would get stymied by the Hops bullpen over the final seven innings managing just a pair of hits off LHP Trevor McKenna (3.0IP, 1H, 0R, 2SO, W 2-1), RHP Ryan Miller (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 1SO), RHP Chester Pimentel (2.0IP, 1H, 0R, 1SO) and RHP Joey Green (1.0IP, 0H, 0R, 2SO, Sv.).
Vancouver starter RHP Jose Espada struggled early walking the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st inning before allowing a two-run double to Francis Martinez, his 12th double of the season, to give the Hops a 2-1 lead. Espada, who fell to 2-4 on the season, went five innings allowing six hits, five runs, three earned, walked four and struck out four before he gave way to RHP Denis Diaz (2.0IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB) and RHP Connor Law (1.0IP, 1H, 1ER, 3SO)
