Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians (12-9) got a two-run home run from 1B Randy Schwartz in the top of the 9th inning to send Thursday night's game in Spokane to extra innings, but the Indians (12-9) loaded the bases and got a sacrifice fly from SS Hanser Alberto to help the home team to a 4-3 victory.

Spokane would jump out to an early lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning grabbing a trio of hits including an infield single from DH Hirotoshi Onaka that scored 3B Nick Vickerson to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

Canadians starter RHP Zach Breault would give up a run in the bottom of the 5th inning when he left a pitch up in the zone to Zach Cone who hit his first home run of the summer to extend the Indians lead to 3-0.

Vancouver struggled against Spokane starter RHP David Perez who struck out five while giving up just a lone hit before turning the game over to the bullpen. The C's wasted little time getting on the board as in the top of the 6th inning, LHP Sam Robinson gave up a double to the newest member of the Vancouver offense as DH Kevin Patterson doubled and eventually scored on a single from RF Nick Baligod to cut the lead to 3-1.

With Spokane closer RHP Matt West in to lock up the victory, the Canadians rallied late with LF Steve McQuail singled to left and came around to score when 1B Randy Schwartz silenced the crowd at Avista Stadium by hitting a tall, towering home run over the left field wall to send the game to extra innings.

Spokane would get the Vancouver closer RHP Bryan Longpre in the bottom of the 10th inning when with the bases loaded and just one out, SS Hanser Alberto hit a shallow fly ball to left field where Steve McQuail would come up throwing, but PR Braxton Lane beat the throw sending the Indians to a 4-3 victory in 10 innings.
