Lake Erie Crushers News Release
AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers were held to just a pair of singles on Friday night at Mercy Health Stadium, as they fell in their series opener to the Washington Wild Things, 1-0.
The Crushers (34-41) have now lost four out of their last five overall, while the Wild Things (40-35) have won five out of their seven games in Avon this season.
The pitching was terrific on both sides. Lake Erie lefty Ryan Feierabend (7-4) held Washington to just an unearned run on only five hits and he struck out nine batters over seven innings of work. Meanwhile, Ryan Hennen (9-2) went the distance for the Wild Things and tossed a two hit shutout.
Washington plated the game's only run on a two out error in the top of the first inning. Andrew Sohn stroked a one out double down the line in left, and two batters later, he came around to score on Steve Passatempo's error at first base. Bralin Jackson hit a ground ball to short, Eric Callahan's throw to first base bounced off of Passatempo's glove allowing Jackson to reach and Sohn to score.
Lake Erie's offense was held in check by Hennen all night long. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before Karl Ellison began the fifth inning with a single. Lake Erie's only other hit was a lead off single from Bryan DeLaRosa in the sixth inning.
Hennen was the winner for Washington, as he struck out eight batters on his way to the complete game shutout, while Feierabend suffered the hard luck loss. Anthony DeFrancesco and Aaron Glickstein both tossed scoreless innings of relief for the Crushers.
The Crushers and Wild Things will continue their series at Mercy Health Stadium on Saturday evening. Lefty Paul Hall Jr. (2-6, 5.35) will get the start for the Crushers and the Wild Things will counter with right-hander Alex Boshers (1-2, 4.08). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
