Joliet Slammers News Release

JOLIET, IL - Baseball kicked off at DuPage Medical Group Field as the Slammers took on the Windy City Thunderbolts. Tonight marks game one of three of the home stand. Joliet sent left hander Logan Lyle to the hill. Lyle has faced 26 batters while in a Slammers uniform and has a 5.53 ERA. The game was taken into extras as the score was tied at 3-3 at the end of the ninth. A one run difference would be the deciding factor of the game as the Slammers came up just short of the Thunderbolts 5-4.

A slow start to the game wouldn't see a score on the board until the Slammers chalked up their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Lane Baremore would get on base on a fielder's choice, allowing Dylan Hardy to come home. The at-bat would end the inning as Carson Maxwell would be put out 5-3 for out number two, and Brylie Ware caught in the nick of time at the plate in a 3-2 play. The lone run would give the Slammers a 1-0 lead over the Thunderbolts, and the play at home would prove to be a game-altering moment.

The top of the sixth inning would see Windy City level the score, as a home run out to deep left field by Donivan Williams tied up the game to 1-1.

A call to the bullpen in the top of the eighth would see southpaw Tyler Jandron take charge of the mound. Logan Lyle would be relieved after 8.1 innings pitched, facing a total of 24 batters.

Windy City claimed the lead in the top of the eighth, scoring a lone run to put them on top. An RBI single hit by Anthony Rios would drive Donivan Williams home, putting the tally at 2-1.

The top of ninth would see the Thunderbolts tally up another run, extending their lead to 3-1. Rob Weissheier put the ball just past the Slammers' center fielder, scoring Dan Robinson. Weissheier was put out in another close call at the plate.

The Slammers came back to tie up the game 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kyle Jacobson hit the game tying double for two RBIs, scoring Carson Maxwell and Lane Baremore. The inning would end on a strikeout taking the game into extras.

Extra innings would kick off with a call to the bullpen for Joliet, bringing in shutdown reliever Trevor Charpie. Jandron would see 7 batters in 1.2 innings on the mound before being relieved.

Windy City put up the two deciding runs in their turn at bat in the top of the 10th. A single by Donivan Williams would let Jack Strunc score. A passed ball cleared the way for Donivan William to head home, adding to the tally for the T-bolts.

A run scored in the bottom of the 10th proved to be too little too late for the Slammers. Scott Holzwasser hit a single allowing Dave Matthews to score unearned. With one runner left on base Joliet fell to the Thunderbolts 5-4, with one hanging in the difference. Tonight's loss puts Joliet's season record at 27-47.

Join us at the next home game on Saturday, August 21st at 6:05 p.m. Saturday night's game will be game two of the three game home stand as well as Elvis Night.
