Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary,AB - A home-and-home series against the much-vaunted Colorado Mammoth (8-6) this coming weekend - the last weekend in the 2006 regular season -- will decide the post-season fate of the Calgary Roughnecks (9-5).
If Calgary wins both games, they will end up first in the West Division of the National Lacrosse League with a guaranteed home berth in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
They can also finish ahead of the pack if they get only one victory and the Portland Lumberjax (also 9-5) lose to either Minnesota (8-7) or Edmonton (1-14).
(In their only meeting this year, the Riggers beat Portland and therefore have the tie-breaker advantage.)
But if Calgary loses both games, there's every chance they will finish third and will have to face a trip to either Denver or Portland two weekends from now.
"Our destiny is in our own hands," said General Manager Kurt Silcott today. "The guys have hit form at the right time. And if they play as well as they can, I like our chances."
