Crunch ink Eric Neilson and Joey Mormina to AHL deals

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch have signed forward Eric Neilson and defenseman Joey Mormina to AHL contracts Crunch General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.

Neilson, 28, returns to the Crunch after playing in 39 games, recording one goal and 135 penalty minutes, during the 2012-13 season. The Fredericton, New Bruinswick native has won five consecutive IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Awards for his respective teams (Peoria, Hamilton, San Antonio, Norfolk and Syracuse). The right-winger has played in 225 career AHL games with Peoria, Hamilton, San Antonio, Norfolk and Syracuse. Neilson was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round, 143rd overall, during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Mormina, 31, spent the 2012-13 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with whom he recorded 10 points (3g, 7a) in 54 regular season games and eight points (1g, 7a) in 15 games during the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Montreal, QC native has appeared in 576 career AHL games with Manchester, Albany, Adirondack and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Prior to turning pro the 6-7, 220 lb., blueliner played 141 games for Colgate University. Mormina was drafted in the sixth round, 193rd overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2002.
