Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
MONTREAL, QUEBEC - Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin announced yesterday the acquisition of right winger Christian Thomas from the New York Rangers, in return for right winger Danny Kristo.
"Christian Thomas is a gifted goal scorer with lots of speed", said Montreal Canadiens and Hamilton Bulldogs General Manager Marc Bergevin. "He was very productive offensively at the junior level with 137 goals before adding 19 more as a rookie with the Connecticut Whale last season. This young 21-year-old forward has shown tremendous character."
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Thomas played one game with the New York Rangers in 2012-2013, making his National Hockey League debut on February 23, 2013 against the Canadiens at Bell Centre in Montreal, recording two shots on goal and three hits in 12:46 time on ice. The 5'09'', 170-pound forward produced 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) in 73 American Hockey League games with the Connecticut Whale last season.
Thomas was selected by the New York Rangers in the second round, 40th overall, at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. A graduate of the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights and Oshawa Generals, Thomas recorded 257 points (137 goals, 120 assists) in 244 regular season contests from 2008 to 2012.
Christian Thomas is the son of former Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings forward Steve Thomas. On March 11th, 2011, Christian scored his 50th goal of the season for the Oshawa Generals, a milestone that Steve reached 27 seasons earlier with the Toronto Marlboros, making them the first father-son duo to each score 50 goals in an OHL season.
Selected in the second round, 56th overall by the Montreal Canadiens at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Danny Kristo registered 52 points (26 goals, 26 assists) in 40 games with the University of North Dakota University Fighting Sioux in 2012-2013. In nine games with the Hamilton Bulldogs last season, the 5'11", 188-pound forward, a 23-year-old native of Edina, Minnesota, recorded three assists.
