
Crunch Close 2011 with 6-2 Win Over Binghamton

Binghamton, NY (December 31, 2011) - Kyle Palmieri, Patrick Maroon and Kyle Cumiskey each contributed three points as the Crunch defeated the Binghamton Senators 6-2 tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
With two goals tonight and 19 on the season, Palmieri once again tops the AHL in goals scored. Maroon added a goal and two assists and Cumiskey chipped in three assists in the Crunch's win.
Palmieri opened the scoring and gave the Crunch a 1-0 lead at the 11:07 mark of the first period. Patrick Maroon made a cross-ice pass to Palmieri whose wrist shot beat Binghamton goaltender Robin Lehner five-hole.
The second period began with 48 seconds of Crunch power play time remaining on a Mike Hoffman slashing penalty. The Crunch capitalized with a power-play tally to make it 2-0 just 33 seconds into the second. Peter Holland stuffed a Maroon rebound past Lehner for the score.
Binghamton responded less than a minute later with a goal from left wing Rob Klinkhammer. Klinkhammer beat Crunch goaltender Jeff Deslauriers at the 1:01 mark of the second stanza and was assisted by Wacey Hamilton and Bob Raymond.
The Crunch then exploded for three goals to close the second period with a 5-1 lead. Mark Bell added a tally at the 5:55 mark, followed by Palmieri and Holland each with their second of the game at the 12:43 and 16:45 mark respectively.
Tensions flared at the end of the second period resulting in numerous players on both teams dropping the gloves and a total of 137 penalty minutes being distributed. Game misconducts were handed out to the Crunch's Matt Kennedy and Sean Zimmerman as well as the Senator's Corey Cowick, Francis Lessard and Robin Lehner. Mike McKenna replaced Lehner in goal following his ejection.
With power play time carrying over the Crunch started the third period on the man-advantage and capitalized at the 1:05 mark of the third with a tally from Maroon.
Binghamton made it 6-2 Crunch with a goal from David Dziurzynski halfway through the final frame.
